How AI tokens work
Tokens are only used when AI runs. Here is what counts, what does not, and what happens as you approach your limit.
Monthly plan tokens
Each plan includes a monthly AI token allowance. Usage resets each billing period.
How usage is counted
Every AI run uses tokens for both the input you send and the output the model returns. Longer text and larger responses use more tokens. Exact cost varies by model and length.
Token packs
If you need more mid-cycle, buy a one-time pack from Billing. Pack tokens add to your available balance (validity typically 365 days).
Limits & warnings
At about 80% used you get a warning. At 100%, AI features pause until you upgrade, buy a pack, or the period resets. Editing documents without AI does not use tokens.
What uses tokens
Writing tools
Compose, rewrite, expand, summarize, simplify, grammar, tone, outline, and title suggestions.
Document chat
Ask questions about a document or selection; answers use tokens for the prompt and the reply.
Translate
Document and PDF translation send text to the model and deduct tokens for that run.
PDF intelligence
Summaries, key points, rewrite / expand / grammar on PDFs, and PDF chat.
Manual editing, comments, sharing, folders, and collaboration do not consume AI tokens.

Plans include fixed document caps (5–150) and member seats (1–20). Document limits are enforced when you create or duplicate documents.
Each plan lists allowed AI models. Higher tiers unlock more models. You choose a model when running AI actions (where your plan allows).
Track tokens used, remaining allowance, and breakdowns in Dashboard → AI usage / Billing so you can plan upgrades or packs before you hit the limit.

Tokens measure AI usage. When you run an AI action, VeloAI counts the text sent to the model and the text it returns. That total is deducted from your plan allowance (and any purchased packs).
